Wedding Group Photos |

To enable your wedding day to run smoothly and to avoid you having to make any important decisions on the day I'd always make sure I have your group photo requests beforehand.
We'd discuss which combinations are important to you, location preferences, and any specific ideas you have when meeting at your venue approximately 3 months before the big day.
It is always good to think of any combinations or group photos you think you may like ahead of the meeting; however there is no need to write your own list. At our meeting I'd make a note of your immediate family, bridal party and any other special guests attending. A few weeks later I'd email you a bespoke group photo list to suit you, which can then be tweaked in your own time to add more combinations, remove some, or alter any.
My style of working is to set the portraits up in the traditional way but then make them natural and relaxed. It takes 2 seconds to take a group photo of everyone facing the camera before we have some fun! Every couple loves relaxed informal photos and these will most often remain their favourites, however on a one off occasion I feel it is important to take a quick traditional backup to avoid any disappointment at a later date.

Wedding Group Photo List TemplateBelow you'll find my template of popular choices for group portrait combinations. When and where they are taken will be flexible to suit your timings, venue, weather and the flow of the day.

Before Guests Arrive Approximately one hour before the ceremony I meet with the Groom, his Groomsmen and immediate family. This is an ideal opportunity to capture some portraits as they await the arrival of the guests.

Arrival of the Bride When the Bride arrives at the ceremony venue there is often five minutes or so to take a few portraits with her bridal party and parents outside.
For Bride's getting ready at the ceremony venue there are photo opportunities in the preparations room or en route to their registrar's interview or ceremony.

Ceremony At most ceremonies the officiant will hand over to me to quickly arrange a few portraits after the legal documents have been signed. Although there is paperwork now instead of a register book, photos are still set up in the same way.
If you are having a church service it is advisable to discuss with your vicar who you'd like photos with as often you'll walking out to a side room as part of a procession during a hymn.

Post Ceremony Portraits at the Church or Register Office The majority of portraits usually take place at the reception venue where there are drinks and canapes for the guests to have beforehand, however it can be possible to stay longer at the church to take the group portraits there or in a nearby park if there is limited options at your reception venue.

Large Group Photos 10-15 minutes after your ceremony at the same venue or on arrival from the church or register office is the best time to do the large group portraits before the adults wander to the bar and the children run off to play!

Popular Smaller Wedding Group Photos Once portraits with the majority of guests have been taken I then continue my way efficiently through your requests. If some have been taken at a different ceremony venue you can have them repeated if you wish with a different background. On average I'd recommend allowing 20-30 minutes. The time taken will depend on any children's ages, and length of your list.

Bride and Groom Portraits I like to take some relaxed contemporary photographs of the happy couple away from their guests. This usually consists of a short walk around the venue grounds to take some natural portraits. It is also an opportunity to spend a small amount of time somewhere quiet out of the spotlight to enjoy some precious time together.

Additional Requests After the wedding breakfast there is often a short wait whilst the venue gets your evening reception room ready. This is the ideal time for some additional requests or more Bride and Groom portraits, which may include sunset photos depending on the time of year. Whilst walking around taking reportage I'm happy to take requests from guests.

Your Day, Your Choice of Group Photos It's your special day so I don't place any restrictions on the number of combinations and variety you can have. With the bridal party's assistance gathering people ready for the next combination whilst I'm photographing I can efficiently work through your requests quickly giving you plenty of time left to talk with your guests.
